For some reason very few Brits we meet have heard of the Cinque Terre. When we visit the Cinque Terre, there are always lots of tourists but they mainly seem to be Americans or Australians.
Let us tell you, the Cinque Terre are northern Italy's version of the Amalfi coast. 5 towns nestled in the rocks, it's one of the most beautiful spots you can visit. The 5 towns sit on a national park which is connected by the Via Dell'Amore (path of love) which you can trek through enjoying some spectacular and breathtaking views. The water is that crystal blue and the towns great fun to explore as they are all higgle-di-pigglty.
Best way to travel is by train, which runs right up to the sealine and you can do day trips to swanky towns of Portofino or Porto Venere.
In tomorrow night's episode of Simply Italian (8.30pm Monday C4) we visit a fab restuarant in the town of Vernazza called Belforte which has some incredible tables on their balconies...you are basically eating suspended over the waves in the sea!
If you are looking for somewhere to stay, visit Edi's apartments in the town of Riomaggiore. You can get self-catered spottlessly clean apartments for about 100 euros a night.
