Who's firing up the BBQ this weekend?
Scorching weather is on the horizon for us in the UK. Many of us will be lighting up our barbecue for the first time this year, but what to throw on it?
We all know that burgers and sausages are a sure-fire hit, but what other things work well?
We love this trout cooked in newspaper:

Me !
I expect that cooking in the garden is what's on the agenda for the weekend !
I have a little coalpot and that will be lit , I might BBQ an aubergine and make the soft cooked flesh of it into a pate by adding the cooled aubergine to creme fraise , crushed garlic , a little lemon juice , a bit of paprika and salt . Scattered with a touch of smokey paprika on top . Lovely with a bit of fresh bread toasted over the coals .
Maybe I might make a few kebabs , hallumi for me and possibly lamb for my darling and some BBQ 'd veg to add to some quinoa.
Then I might put a pot on the coals and cook a curry ready for the next meal .. Best make use of the heat in the coals that is still there !
Or .. I might just blacked some peppers to store in a bit of olive oil for using on salads later in the week .

I am sure no one is suprised that we will be BBQ'ing again this weekend.
Monkfish, scallop and mixed veg skewers. I will put some light smoke on them either with mesquite or pecan( have to check if I have any left) or I may buy some alder.

Re: Who's firing up the BBQ this weekend?
If MrP comes up to where I'm staying, he can help me make my niece's friend's family recipe for Persian kebabs. I'm not familiar with the gas grill . . . a bit intimidated to try using it, silly, I know. We love smoke and bbq that is not charred, maybe that's over-stating the obvious about American-style bbq, but seriously, it's The Goal and I don't get that same flavor from the gas grill, even adding the wood chips, etc. I know it's a little cleaner than burning hardwood charcoal in the Weber, so I'd like some tips on making it work.

The gas barbie is like indoors cooking, outdoors............in my opinion.
Nothing beats proper charcoal, done properly.
We have a barbie even when it's cold & damp (if we didn't, some years we we would never light the bally thing)..........tomorrow we have guests coming so outdoors eating will be the order of the day.
Not sure as yet what we are having...........watch this space!

Re: Who's firing up the BBQ this weekend?
we will now been having the bbq tommorrow as my darling managed to loose the meat we bought on the way home !!!
Ah well .
I did not think he would apreciate a vegetariam BBQ so tommorrow he will make a supermarket dash (butchers closed) wilst I light the little BBQ .
That was not the only fail that he had this weekend, he was making me some doughin the breadmaker so that we could have some flat bread and somehow mistook the recipe in his book.... I poured the 'dough ' out of the machine pan as it was like thick bubbly soup !!!!
never mind. ![]()

Tonight simply sausages and mixed grilled veggies. Tomorrow thinking salmon with some new olive oil and flavored balsamic vinegar we just purchased. And to finish off a home made rhubbarb and strawberry pie. Love the BBQ season!
