Jamie's Glass Jars
Hi all,
I've just bought some lovely glass kilner jars to keep all my flour, sugar etc in. Keeping them in sealed containers will hopefully prevent a repeat of the infestation of flour mites which I recently experienced.
The trouble is that flour in jars all looks the same and when you've got plain, self-raising, corn and '00' and then icing sugar etc etc it gets quite hard to tell apart. And the post-it's keep falling off.
I noticed on some of Jamie's shows that he has some lovely glass jars he uses but they have been decorated and labeled. The ink/paint seems to be thick and solid, a bit like oil paint but if it came out of a pen. I've looked around on the web for something similar but I can only find non-permanent markers which wouldn't give that 'raised' effect and would wash off.
Some of the patterns had translucent and metallic paint as well.
Does anyone know what sort of pens are used to achieve this, and where I can get some?
Thanks!

Hi Mark,
Haven't you been a member for a good while!
I haven't noticed Jamie's jars
I just use texta, but you could try with nail polish, or go to a craft shop and get paints for glass. ![]()

Haven't I just? I noticed that too. Having some experience with making websites I know that particular date usually means the proper date wasn't recorded properly. Weird!
Thanks for the suggestions! I will have to pop in to Cass Art at some point - if they don't have it then I'm not sure who will! Failing that, nail polish is an excellent suggestion. I wouldn't have even thought of that ![]()

In the meantime you could put your labels inside the jars, will they "hide" inside the recess of the lid. I cut the packaging out myself as I use lock n lock boxes.
Or, you could use parcel labels tied on with coloured raffia not as permanent but looks nice, just a thought. How is your calligraphy?

You guys are so inventive! Such good ideas, thank you. My calligraphy isn't up to much but I'm sure it'll do ![]()

You're probably looking for something like this http://www.paintpens.com.au/products/91 … dozen.aspx
These sorts of things can go through the dishwasher.
BTW sealed containers won't stop flour mites forming, as they are in the flour; but it will present them spreading to other flour.

Re: Jamie's Glass Jars
I just cut wonky labels with those patterned craft scissors and wrote on them ,
I stuck then on the containers with wide sellotape.. not very inventive i know , but it does the job !

Love cutting my labels with those scissors mummz.
I paste them on with egg whites, the same way as wine labels were...still are pasted onto the bottles...

Mark, I label everything including freezer bags with painters tape. Used to mask windows etc. Different colors for different stickiness. As long as you put it on at room temp, dry container, it sticks. You can then write on it with an indelible pen. Later if you want to use the jar for something else, just rip the tape off and start over.
