Need some ideas for a really special event.
Hi all, I want to make a special dinner tomorrow for Hubby, it is our 30th anniversary so it is a big day.
There are a few things though, he won't eat any lamb, pork, lentils, goat, goat cheeses, anything strange to him, anything healthy. There is also a lot of problems with the kids being lactose intolerance and loads of allergies to preservatives and additives.
I don't want to have to do the usual thing and cook different meals for different members of the family, as I want to be able to stop and enjoy the evening.

I would choose a huge risotto, it takes only 16 mins to be done
and or a huge polenta (40 mins) with whatever they like
tell us more about your family/guests likes 
and good luck from now for a peaaceful cheerful gathering to celebrate your 30 years together

Happy Anniversary! Birdymum, does your family enjoy fish and seafood? Maybe a nice lobster dinner or a mix of seafood on the grill served with some fresh mango salsa? Fancy and yet, so simple to make.

The answer to your question is... STEAK! Get some nice beef fillet steaks and serve with roast potatoes big flat mushroom and onion rings. Thick gravy or peppercorn sauce completes.

Ok thanks for the feedback.
Sorry Mrs P and dhartley, the girls won't eat steak or seafood and are allergic to mushrooms but rosotto sounds good.
This would all be so simple if only it were just hubby and me; then all of the above suggestions would be great especially as he doesn't cook

Well the evening didn't go as planned which is not a strange thing when dealing with a family.
Eldest daughter and I got to the market and did all the errands, bought beautiful produce and came home to cook. We had made the dessert first, some rich vanilla custard pies topped with caramalised figs and bananas ( a big one for tonight and little ones for her to take home) then put this into the refrigerator. Nothing wrong with the desert so far!
Things sort of got out of hand after that, youngest daughter got ill with a fever and eldest daughter had to go to work and left with her hubby, our son gave up on his sisters and made himself some cheese on toast for dinner; so that was the end of plans for the family evening.
In the end Hubby and I went out to a local Italian restaurant and enjoyed some of their cooking then came home and had vanilla tart for sweets. Not quite as planned but at least we got to have a good meal together.
